Since Zakynthos (Zante) is a Greek Island situated in the Ionian Sea, it follows the Mediterranean climate. This means that the summers are hot and sunny, while the winters can be rainy and mild. Compared to other Greek islands, Zante has more rainfall, although this is normally concentrated between the months of October to March. Peak season (May to October) tends to be extremely dry and hot, so we recommend visiting between the months of April to May! You will still be able to take advantage of the nice weather while avoiding the herds of crowds!
When visiting Zakynthos, you may notice the abundance of sea turtles! It's no surprise, as the reefs and beaches near and around this island are the nesting place for many Loggerhead Sea Turtles. You can spot them either in the Marine Park or coming to the shore of a beach to lay eggs. If you want a unique experience, head to the waters with snorkelling gear for a front row view of these sea turtle friends! You can also enjoy looking at the beautiful coral reefs and other aquatic life!
It's time to get your hike on! There are many hiking trails and paths to take when on Zakynthos, but we suggest climbing Keri Cliffs. It is located on the southwest end of the island offers stunning views of cliffs, rocks, water and sea turtles! Nearby, there is a lighthouse that you can visit - which makes a perfect secret hideaway for an amazing sunset! If you don't want to climb all of the stairs, try joining a boat tour that goes around the caves and follows turtles!
What's a visit to a Greek island without going to the world-renown beaches! All of the beaches in Zakynthos feature plenty of shallow water areas perfect for swimming, and soft sand for tanning or building sand castles. Most beaches are organized and feature water sport rentals and the opportunity to rent beach chairs and umbrellas as well. One of our favorite beaches is Gerakas. This "red-sand' beach is a relatively quiet and secluded place for visitors who want some peace and to retreat from the busyness of the city!
Surprisingly, Zante is home to many coves, making it the perfect place to go cave exploring! One of the most scenic coves on the island is Limnionas, which is surrounded by different colored cliffs and green rocks! Inside the cove, you can find all sorts of strange geological formations and small creatures. When you are done exploring for the day, head down to the nearby taverns to enjoy a nice sunset dinner! We recommend checking out Limnionas Tavern!
If you want an extended wellness vacation, make sure to stay at a wellness hotel! Meandros Boutique and Spa is home to InSPAration Wellness, which is a spa that features an indoor heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, saunas, facial treatments, atmospheric massage rooms, hair salons, fitness rooms and more! They have a wide variety of treatments that focus on the health, beauty, pampering and stress reduction. All treatments can be customized to suit the guests personal needs!
Keri Village and Spa is situated right next to a forest, meaning your morning strolls will have a touch of nature and fresh air! If the outdoors aren't your thing, head over to the fitness center and sign up for a yoga or Pilates class to help you relax your body and mind! Or, if you want the ultimate relaxation, go to the spa where you can select from a wide range of therapies and beauty services. The in-hotel spa features amenities such as a Turkish bath, indoor pool and tropical rain!
