Gay life in Madeira is laid-back with a discreet
LGBT community which, whatsoever, is quite extensive. The island's peak season, weather-wise, is from
May to August, however we would also recommend you visiting both
in Spring and September/October. That said, Madeira is an
all-year-round destination, and many gay travelers visit it during winter to grab some winter sun.
The
gay scene of Madeira is unorganized. There are not any
gay clubs or bars around the island, however, you shouldn't be discouraged, since the majority of the
local clubs, bars, cafe, and restaurants are actually gay-friendly. Some of the most popular gay-friendly venues are
Venda Velha, 23 Vintage Bar, Mini Eco Bar, Cafe do Teatro, Trap Music Bar, Copacabana Disco, & Escondidinho!
There are
not any gay events on the island, however, Madeira hosted its
2nd gay pride in 2018, since the previous gay pride, that took place in 2017, had an
unexpectedly high attendance. Apart from the gay pride, you will
not find any other popular gay events, however, the trendy bars and cafes of the island might host some occasional
special nights!Furthermore, we should mention that Madeira is not only about
its gay scene, Madeira has a lot more to offer than that. First of all, Madeira is known for its
crystal-clear beaches, where you can enjoy the most pleasurable dives of your life. Then, there are many
extreme sports, trendy bars, and an array of boutique hotels, which will surely keep you busy through your holidays!
Last but not least, we should mention
GayMadeira.com, a gay blog that aims to help the gay visitors of Madeira. The blog is run by
Mr. Tobi Hughes, who gave us all the information about the island.
Tobi and his partner are very willing
to help the gay travelers who visit Madeira, by giving
personalised tips with
the most popular gay-friendly venues as well as
the top things to do around the island!
